The Church was built on the truth that Jesus is the Christ. He came to: (Luke 4:18)
- Preach the Gospel to the poor
- Heal the brokenhearted
- Preach deliverance to the captives
- Give sight to the blind
- Liberate the oppressed
This world is filled with hurting people that Jesus came to heal. But the church drifted from Jesus’ mission. We, the church, gave away our hurting people to the professionals because we do not realize God’s intention for using His church body to heal its members
The church has lost its way in terms of true Spirit empowered, Bible-centered counseling.
Jesus said in John 16, “In the world you will have tribulation” –by the sins we commit, and the sins committed against us — Our church lost sight to the answer to our suffering—And what’s the answer? The cross of Jesus brought to life by the Spirit in each believer.
Instead of depending on the Father, we rely on self-help curriculums, step programs, moral therapeutic deism, and accountability groups.
We bow down to professional therapy often out of intimidation through the lack of understanding how to deal with the behavioral modification movement. The behavioral modification movement deals with the issue and teaches the individual to manage their behavioral problems.
The Gospel deals with the heart. It teaches us, in the most excruciating moments, whether suffering because someone sinned against us or due to our own habitual sin, God is enough.
But this is where the church lost its way in terms of true Spirit empowered bible-centered counseling.
Most churches would say they believe in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit; however, they do not know how to live in light of that belief.
Jesus told Peter to tend and feed His sheep. God always purposed the church to counsel its people. The 21st century church feels so ill-equipped, but the truth is they are equipped because of Jesus’ work on the cross, the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, and the truth of God’s Word. The individuals seeking counsel and resting in this truth are freed, not simply managed.
The Light’s Home is a ministry revitalizing the power that Christ gave us through His Holy Spirit. The Light’s Home believes in bringing counseling back to the church. If you do not feel equipped, we want to help.
When you think of counseling, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Most people think of professional counselors, therapists, clinicians, and psychiatrists—not the church. We believe counseling belongs to the church.
Jesus tells us in Scripture that sin starts in the heart. We worshiped our way into sin, and we have to worship our way out, by bringing all suffering under the authority of our buried and resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ.
